Why update your Bose® CineMate® 1 SR?
Your Bose CineMate 1 SR system is designed to provide years of service. Updating the system will ensure that it is functioning optimally.
What you will need: A USB portable thumb drive with a minimum of 10 MB space available.

Note for users who have previously run a Bose update:
Make sure that all of the files with the extension *.upd are removed from the pen drive before starting the process.
- 300 MHz processor (1 GHz for Vista) 32 or 64 bit
- 128 MB RAM (Windows XP); 512 MB (Vista Home Basic); 1 GB (other Vista editions and Windows 7 32 bit); 2 GB (Windows 7 64 bit)
- Internet connection
- 30 MB available hard disk space
- USB 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 port
- OS v10.5 (Leopard), v10.6 (Snow Leopard) or OS v10.7 (Lion)
- Intel-based processor
- 512 MB RAM (Leopard); 1 GB (Snow Leopard)
- Internet connection
- 40 MB available hard disk space
- USB 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 port
Bose Cinemate 1 Sr Setup
The update application will require details from your CineMate® 1 SR system, (serial number and software version) before it can provide you with the correct update.
Bose Cinemate 1 Sr Installation Manual
1. To retrieve this information, first power on your CineMate 1 SR system. The amber light on the Acoustimass® module should be solidly lit and not blinking.
2. Now take your available USB pen drive and insert it into the connector labelled 'Service' on the rear of your Acoustimass module. The amber light should turn green and blink for several seconds, then go out. If the indicator light on the Acoustimass module does not change after inserting the pen drive, remove the thumb drive and reinsert it.
3. When the light goes out, remove the pen drive. Your CineMate 1 SR information is now available on the USB pen drive.
4. Now connect the thumb drive to your computer and continue to the software update by clicking below
5. Run the application
- In the File Download window, click Run or Save
- If Run, follow the prompts to perform the update
- If Save, select a location for saving the file (Bose_Update_Application.exe). Then start the application from your hard drive and follow the prompts to perform the update
Note for Windows users:
If you have multiple user accounts on your computer, you may be prompted to input administrator credentials in order to run the application.
- Wait for your computer to download the file. It will appear on your desktop as a hard drive icon.
- A window should open. Drag the update application file to the desktop as indicated (If the window doesn't open, double-click the icon.)
- Run the update application from your desktop and follow the prompts to perform the update.
6. Now that the update has been saved to your USB drive, remove the USB drive from your computer and return to your Acoustimass module to update your system. Once again, make sure that your CineMate 1 SR system is powered on and the amber light on the Acoustimass module is on solidly.
7. Insert the USB drive into the Acoustimass module. The update will start automatically and the light will change from solid amber to solid green, briefly blinking every few seconds. If the indicator light on the Acoustimass module does not change after inserting the pen drive, remove the thumb drive and reinsert it.
8. The update will take a few minutes to complete and the light on the Acoustimass module will extinguish when the update is finished.
9. Once the light is extinguished, remove your USB drive from your CineMate 1 SR system. The system will return to normal operation once the USB drive is removed.

- Make sure that your Internet connection is working properly
- The application needs to know specific details about your CineMate 1 SR system. To retrieve this information, first insert the selected pen drive into the connector labelled 'Service' on the rear of your Acoustimass module. The amber light should turn green and blink for several seconds, then go out. When the light goes out, remove the pen drive and reconnect to your computer.
- Wait until your computer instructs you to remove the USB drive
- Ensure that your system is plugged in and powered on, and the amber LED is solidly lit on the Acoustimass module before inserting the USB drive.
- If a red LED is seen on the Acoustimass module during the update, remove the pen drive from your CineMate 1 SR system, unplug the Acoustimass module from the plug socket for 1 minute and then plug it back in. Make sure that the system is powered on (showing a solid amber LED) and reinsert the pen drive.
- If the problem persists, contact Bose Customer Support at 1-877-335-2073 (US) or 1-87-701-2175 (Canada).
Navigating through the Help menu
The Help menu is available throughout the update process. From the Help menu, you can access:
- Licence agreement: Review the licence agreement
- System information: View information about the current version of the Bose CineMate 1 SR system software, as well as information for your computer and operating system.

What is the purpose of the update application for the CineMate 1 SR system?
This application allows for a simple, immediate software download directly from Bose® to your computer, and then to the CineMate 1 SR system.
Why might I need to upgrade my CineMate 1 SR system software?
Updating the software will ensure that the system is functioning optimally.
Will updating my system software enable my CineMate 1 SR system remote to control newer TVs or other devices?
No. The codes for controlling other devices are stored in the CineMate 1 SR remote control, and are not updateable. If you are having trouble controlling your TV or other device with your CineMate 1 SR remote control, please contact Bose® Customer Service for help.
Can this update be accomplished on both PCs and Macs?
Yes. The PC or Mac used for the update must meet the minimum system requirements found on the download site.

Will this update affect my computer in any way?
Only temporarily. While the application is running, it will create and utilise temporary working files. When the application has finished and closed, it will remove all temporary working files including the application itself.
What type of USB thumb drive should I use?
You can use nearly any USB thumb drive with at least 10 MB of available space. A drive that appears as either a hard disk or a 'composite device' will not work. The drive must be FAT or FAT32 formatted.
Does the USB thumb drive need to be empty?
No. If you have other files on the thumb drive, they will not be affected by the update process. However, if you previously ran a Bose® update with this thumb drive, make sure all files with the extension *.upd are removed before starting the update process.
How long will the update take?
It should only take a few minutes at your PC to download the update from Bose®. It can take up to five minutes to run the update on your CineMate 1 SR system.
Where is the USB connection on my CineMate 1 SR system?
It is on the rear of the Acoustimass® module and is labelled 'Service'.
